House Concerts

What is a house concert?
A house concert is an excellent way to get together with friends and, at the same time, to be introduced to an artist and their work. There is nothing like the experience of being close enough to an artist to observe how they breathe life into a work; or to talk to the artist after the concert and ask all the questions that the performance evokes. Many people have homes large enough to accommodate 25 or more people. Instead of being distant observers in a concert hall, they could offer their own home for a private concert by a professional artist.

A house concert host simply invites their friends to come and share in the experience. The intimacy and warmth of the occasion soon enchants most people who attend house concerts. Who would not want to be the first to introduce his or her friends to a favourite new artist and watch the delight of the audience as the evening unfolds? House concerts have many other advantages -reasonable cost; no parking problems, and an audience that has been handpicked and invited by you. In a time when most of our entertainment is "delivered" on a large scale or via technology, many people are still intrigued by the simplicity and moved by the sense of community they feel attending a house concert.

Why choose Chloe & Jason Roweth?
Chloe & Jason Roweth regularly perform smaller style concerts as part of their touring schedule. Their music is well suited to an intimate environment, with clear voices well complimented by acoustic instruments. Add to this the many stories and insights into Australian life which accompany the songs, and you have the makings of an engaging, and often moving concert experience. The duo also offers many themed presentations to choose from. The intimate setting of a house concert allows the audience to become active participants in the musical experience - the kind of interaction that Chloe and Jason thrive on!

How do I present a house concert?
Here are some guidelines for presenting a successful house concert.

Length of a Concert
Usually a concert consists of two 45 minute sets with a 20-minute intermission. Sets can be tailored to individual requests.

"Presenter" or "host" responsibilities
Invite everyone; friends, relatives, business acquaintances, etc., who would enjoy the evening.
To cover the artist's fee, you can either sell tickets or, if you want to invite friends for a special occasion, you might prefer to pay the artists out of your own pocket.
Determine with the artists the best spot in your house for the performance, and provide seats for your audience. In the warmer months, you might prefer to hold your concert outdoors in a backyard or on a deck.
Provide some refreshments, or ask your guests to bring a plate. Of course, you can make things as elaborate as you like.
Discuss with the artists whether they will need to provide sound equipment.

The cost
The fee for one of Chloe & Jason's regular evening concerts is based on the number of people in attendance. Tickets are generally $10-$15, with a minimum fee of $250 (25 people @ $10 per person). Travel costs for the artists also need to be considered and incorporated into the ticket price. Or, as mentioned before, you can simply invite your friends and pay the musicians yourself.
